So obviously if I was on the other side of this whole whacky game from last Saturday, I'd be a bit upset. And for those who do not know what I'm talkin about, wow, have you not seen any sports news in the past 5 days? Oregon beats Oklahoma 34-33 by scoring 14 points in 22 seconds. Now, whether or not I was on the winning side, even if Oklahoma would have done that, or any of those overrated Florida schools, as a college football nut I'd take my hat off at just how much was accomplished. Oregon stops Oklahoma from scoring a touchdown at the 3 yard line, and the Sooners kick the field goal. Oregon then goes 80 yards in 45 seconds and scores a touchdown with 1:09 left on the clock. So the score is 33-27, so Oregon must recover an onside kick and score again. They "recover" the onside kick. Then after a disputable pass interference call, which really dosen't matter if it was, they still would have had the ball, Oregon on the next play throws a 30 yard pass to a WIDE OPEN Brian Paysinger for the win after the extra point. After Paul Martinez's extra point Oregon leads 34-33 with 46 seconds left. Then after a dumbass squib kick, Oklahoma damn near returns it all the way for a touchdown, all the way to the Oregon 27. Oklahoma then just barely spikes the ball in time, and lines up for the field goal. Blair Phillips of Oregon then blocks the kick, and Oregon wins. After accomplishing all that, I say the hell with Oklahoma's whining. They were missed calls, but the game is 60 minutes, not the last two minutes. Oklahoma had plenty of chances to win that game...
1. Terrible timeout calling in the first half by the Sooners, they use all three in the first 8 minutes.
2. Bob Stoops elects to go for the field goal from the 3 yard line with 2 minutes left, instead of letting Adrian Peterson run it in for 7, which would have put the lead to 3 possessions.
3. Oklahoma plays prevent defense the second to last drive allowing Oregon to get 5 consecutive first downs of 10-15 yards.
4. After Oregon gets the onside kick, Oklahoma made no defensive stop from 45 yards out, and left Paysinger all alone in the end zone.
5. Oklahoma still had a chance to win after a great return, but had poor kick protection and Oregon got the block.
...And thats just 5 things, and I now see Oklahoma fans are making death threats to the replay officials, and are making threats to never play a Pac Ten school again. Give me a break Oklahoma, I was at the game, you are in no way a national title contender, at least not this year. You would have no gone undefeated, you're season is not over, the Holiday Bowl will be happy to welcome the third place from the Big 12. Get over yourselves, all this whining is ridiclous. The University president says he wants the loss off the record, is that even possible? And is this guy the school president or the booster president? And finally to the media and the nation, if this would have been any other school, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Texas, Michigan, or the school they constantly throw down our throats Notre Dame, this game would have been all over the news with such an incredible finish. It was the FOURTH game on Sports Center! Unbelievable. And not only that, it was called a "cheated" win and Oregon is just a "lucky" team. Oregon not only deserves but demands respect from college football. They are now 13-2 in the past 15 games. And even with the disrespect from the pollsters Oregon has not left the top 20. People might say who have they beaten? Well past 5 years, Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas, Mississippi State, Fresno State, and every school in the Pac Ten, including USC. USC is not the only team on the west coast. I'm probably kicking my own ass here, because Oregon's next three games are at Arizona State, at Cal, and at USC. And you just watch, one loss is all it will take, even if its close, Oregon will drop 10 spots. No respect, Oregon is the Rodney Dangerfield of college football!
