Monday With The Mounties, 2/11/08

Gentleman, Valentines Day is coming up. I'll pass out a few tips for presents here for those who do not know these common sense things. One, as much as we do not want to, men have to buy an item as the present. An actual piece of something that says, "Hey I know you, and care about you (this item's) amount." With that being said, number two, a gift certificate or gift card is not acceptable. I know it's easy and seems logical because she can buy anything there, and it does say, "Hey I know you enough to know you love this store."

But, gentleman, do not fall for this, it is not near enough. You must make the effort and buy the item. Finally, and most importantly, money is NEVER a good idea. It shows you made absolutely no effort and even if you do, it seems you know nothing of her. This is not your seven-year-old cousin or roommate, a 20 dollar bill is not acceptable. So, best of luck to all of us.

Another successful weekend for Mountaineer basketball, four games... four wins. Not just four wins, but four very decisive victories. It was a chance for revenge on both nights. First on Friday, Concordia visited La Grande, and the upset losses from only three weeks ago were fresh on the minds of the EOU men and women. Then, on Saturday, the Corban women were back in Quinn Coliseum. The last time the Warrior women were here, they won the conference tournament championship game last February.

The EOU women and men showed no signs of weakness, and no sign of teams that lost to CU just a month ago. The Cavaliers met two Eastern teams ready to play and left with double-digit margin losses. On Saturday, the Corban women's team showed their youth and that they were not the same team that won the conference tournament last season. The men's game was highlighted by a barrage of three-point shots.. by both teams. A total of 48 three-point shots were taken, and 29 were made. Corban is still trying to figure out how they could make 16 three's and lose.

The Eastern track and field team made their presence felt in yet another meet in Nampa, Idaho. Cayla Weissert jumped her personal best in the pole vault, while Mitch Wheelhouse did the same in the 30 pound weight throw. On the track, Doug Benson won his heat in the 800 meters and Zach Heath ran a gutsy race after a recent injury. Freshman Melisa Abesa broke her own school record, the record she just set last week, in the 60 meters.

Does this make me boring, but on the show "Deal or No Deal" I would honestly take the first offer? Not like the offer given by the banker, but the suitcase I pick to start the show. Because even if it is five dollars, it's five dollars I didn't have when I came to the show. There would be no need to get anyone close to me sent to the show to help me decide, because they wouldn't even have time to get out there. Now, if you're truly fans of diabolical television, tune into FOX's new show "Moment of Truth." No show has ever ended more relationships, family, job, or love than this one.

That's enough for now, as always, it's all in good fun, until next week, stay down or MOUNT UP!
