Do you think the New England Patriots heard Tom Petty singing "Free Falling" during halftime? It seemed to be the theme song for the falling of the mighty Patriots.
In one of the greatest, not just Super Bowl, but football games of all-time, the New York Giants did what 67 percent of the country wanted them to do, beat the Patriots. In a poll from ESPN's SportsNation, only 33 percent of the United States wanted to witness New England finish perfection.
The Eastern Oregon men's and women's basketball teams faced their biggest road challenges, in the same weekend. On Friday night, the EOU men entered their game with number 13 Oregon Tech as the tenth ranked team in the nation. It was a battle between the top two teams in the conference.
Unfortunately for the Mountaineer men, they would be the latest victim of Danny Miles Court. The incredible home-court advantage combined with an incredible night from Tech's Ryan Fiegi, overwhelmed the Eastern men. EOU rebounded with a solid victory in Ashland the following night over Southern Oregon.
The Eastern women looked very strong in a worthy opponent, Oregon Tech, Friday evening winning on the road. The win set-up a huge game versus Southern Oregon who entered as the nation's 28th best team and only one game behind EOU in the conference standings.
The Raiders used a great start in the second half to outlast the 17th ranked Mountaineers. The Eastern women will try to return to the win column Tuesday, hosting Multnomah Bible. The game was originally scheduled for a 6:00 tip-off and pushed back until 7:00 pm.
There's no doubt that Mountie basketball is having a year like never before, on both men's and women's sides. With that being said, this weekend the "Victory Sports Network" will be coming to La Grande. The nation's best coverage of NAIA sports based in Nebraska will be making its first trip to the Northwest. Not only will this be huge for EOU, but great for the conference in general. We need to be great hosts and show how classy Eastern is, but at the same time how loud and proud we are of our teams.
It's about that time of year when Girl Scouts of America sell their cookies (if there is a time of year for that), but here's a small random thought to consider, if girl scouts succeed so well with cookies, shouldn't the Boy Scouts consider cupcakes? I'd say brownies, but shouldn't the Brownie scouts (young girl scouts) sell .... brownies?
That's enough for now, as always, it's all in good fun, until next week, stay down or MOUNT UP!
