Being that I am the kind of writer that always exceeds my editor’s expectations, and by expectations I mean amount of words I am allowed to use, it is only right that I now have my own column in every issue.
Each week we are captivated by so many different big stories in the sports world, some must be shared. If you have always thought, “I’d like to read about headlines in sports from someone who is witty and carries many biases,” than guess what? Your column is here.
I suppose it is only right to begin this week with why I pushed this all the way to the deadline, we now have Super Bowl XLI set-up. And if you have been in a cave for the past 2 months don’t worry, the top two teams when you left are the only two left.
This is why I hate pro sports. The word surprise has left long ago along with players who actually care about playing the game and not the amount they’ll be getting in their next verizon commercial. That’s right; I’m talking about Mr. Amazing, Peyton Manning. The guy may be the next biggest sell-out, close behind Dan Marino. Its bad enough we have to watch the same Indianapolis team each week, but then during the commercials we are subjected to his seven commercials, give me a break!
The Colts will be facing off against the Chicago Bears, who for some part of the late season looked 3-13 and not 13-3. The Bears did manage to destroy the one chance at a surprise and probably around a million viewers for the Super Bowl by beating the New Orleans Saints.
Here’s a team that would have brought so many viewers to the game in two weeks, just because of the heart-warming story it could be for the next two weeks. I could easily imagine ESPN, and even FOX News in New Orleans soaking up the stories from the embattled city. But, instead we’ll have the Bears and Colts, wake me for the fourth quarter.
As we inch closer and closer to the month of March one thing is clear, the Pacific Ten Conference in men’s basketball is without a doubt the best conference in college this season. An easy first argument for this, the Washington Huskies were 12th in the preseason top 25, and are now unranked and 1-7 in conference play.
The Pac-10 week in and week out have the most amazing games across the country, but are televised on Fox Sports Net, a channel a lot of east coast viewers do not get, and at a time a lot of east coast viewers do not wish to stay awake for. This is why there is little respect shown for the Pac-10 in any sport. I’d say, the conference deserves eight spots in the field of 65 and please sign with a new television station.
I’ll try to finish every story on the lighter side of sports; this week could go to the different “Tuna” they’ll be playing in Dallas, after Bill Parcells decided to resign. Really, he surprised me, he did last one year as the coach of Terrell Owens, one year is hard to make. But instead, I’ll go with a story out of Omaha, Nebraska.
A veterinarian was accused of injecting race horses with vodka before races. Jay Stewart faces four misdemeanor counts of attempting to influence a race. The alcohol is used to calm the jitters in the starting gates. Now, I have seen some of my friends after consuming Vodka, and their jitters being calmed, is not quite what happens.
