12/12/07: Monday With the Mounties

December 12, 2007

Another postponing of Monday with the Mounties, another pay-off. For the second week in a row both the men's and women's basketball teams climbed in the NAIA top 25 polls. The men continue in unchartered waters (one of the dumbest sayings of all-time, but I'll use it) as they rose three spots in the newest rankings after not even playing this week. The EOU men went from nine to six after playing no competition, Coach Looney must have great practices, and left them open for media to come and watch.

The Eastern women made a little leap of their own to 22 from 23 after a big road victory at Linfield College. The Mountie women controlled most of the game on the road at the undefeated NCAA division three opponent. Tiffanie Ulmer continues to impress, while Sheena Henderson continues to just play fantastic ball. But, the surprise of the young season is the play of the Olso(e)n twins, Breana and Laura. The two are trying to replace All-Conference guards, and doing well as of yet.

The men's game against Walla Walla University Thursday night will offer fans a chance to watch the sixth place team in the country for a cheap price, well cheaper than usual. Fans only have to bring a non-perishable food item in exchange for a general admission ticket. The EOU Athletic Department in conjunction with Neighbor to Neighbor Ministries are making this possible. This is the only chance to see EOU basketball in La Grande until January 8th.

Let me just share this with everyone, let's all remember this is the holiday season. Even if you're not the best person, for this short time of the year, be a little more friendly to everyone. The roads are packed, the stores and jammed with shoppers, and the moods can get tense. Let's all be a little more careful and cautious, or just stay at home and read Monday with the Mounties over and over.

I'd also like to share, what's up with fast food restuarants giving you a crazy amount of condiments? I recently went to a fast food tack place and they gave me, no joke, 21 packets of mild sauce after I answered, "hot or mild sauce?" I'm not sure if this was a joke, but this is a normal. Like when you get a five piece chicken nugget and get two bbq sauces. Honestly, how much sauce can I coat on one nugget? Somewhere out there is a little boy sitting alone and sad, for he has a dry chicken leg, with no BBQ sauce. Let's think of him fast food restuarants this time of year!

It's also the time of year where holiday music and movies are all over. So let me share with you my favorites, since I did just buy a DVD collection with seven Christmas classics in it!

MWM for best Holiday Music CD: Kenny G Christmas (I'm serious, the man can play "O Christmas Tree" and make you get chills)

MWM for best Holiday song: Nat King Cole- The Christmas Song or Vince Guaraldi- Christmas Time is Here

MWM for best Holiday cartoon: Charlie Brown Christmas (Easy decision, hands down)

MWM for best Holiday movie: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation or The Christmas Story

So there you go, you still have time to go out and get these things. Anything "Rankin Bass" is a winner during the Holidays, look for their DVD collection.

Get out and see the Mountie men Thursday night, and donate some food. I will be back for the normal Monday release next week, as always, stay down or MOUNT UP!
