10/23/07: Grin and Barrett

October 23, 2007

Well, it was a short stay at the top; this will be my last A&E column. Yes, that’s right this is only my second A&E column.

I have been asked to take-over as sports editor here at the Voice. It is an impossible task of filling Whitney Leman’s shoes, but I will do about 87% as good of a job as she did; and that is a promise.

I will throw in a few A&E things before I’m done as editor. First, these are opinions people! I had a story last issue on my top five albums, MY top five albums. This was not the Rolling Stone top five, the Billboard top five, or top five albums sold; it was my top five albums.

People commented, “There’s no way 50 Cent is a top five album!” Or, “There should be a funk album in the top five.” I never said anywhere in the column about this being someone else’s top five. Please give the next editor a chance to do a review.

I decided to spend the near twenty dollars and went to the movies last week and saw, “The Heartbreak Kid.” The movie starred Ben Stiller as a man scared of commitment to the point where he married a woman out of peer pressure. Stiller soon found out that this quick decision was an unwise one.

He meets his true love on his honeymoon, while his current wife shows her true colors. Jerry Stiller, Ben’s father in the movie and real-life, adds great one-liners in his attempt to motivate his son. Overall, I think this predictable romantic comedy is worthy of waiting for a Blockbuster night, no need to see in theatres.

Thank you all for reading my attempts at the A&E world, now flip to the back of the paper and check-out what I really know about, sports!
